York College Summer Jazz Program/ Blue Notes - July 29th, 7pm-9pm



Teaching maestro and bassist Tom Zlabinger brings his York College summer workshop band to Bar 66 this Wednesday! The SJP (or Blue notes) have played in many of the top jazz venues in NYC and it's high standard of musicianship will fool even the most avid of listeners into thinking this is a group of seasoned pros and not a group of musicians still actually in their teens!
This will be a great event to remember and will be fun for all ages.

Jacob Varmus Quartet - July 22nd, 830pm-11pm



Hot off their successful premiere of Genes and Jazz: The Music of Cell Biology II last month at the Smithsonian, the core members of the Jacob Varmus Quintet will perform for the first time live at Bar 66.

The quartet including Varmus (trumpet and cornet), Toru Dodo (keyboards), Kevin Thomas (bass), and drummer Brian Woodruff will take the opportunity to showcase their empathic rapport with some classic repertoire and some unexpected twists.

Nate Smith and Category Four - Wed 10th June, 9pm


Drummer/composer Nate Smith was recently signed to Fresh Sound records and expects to release his "Quartet" album in late 2009.

Category Four is a recently formed collective - Daisuke Abe is a prolific composer, well known to patrons of Cleopatra's Needle. Peter Brendler is an alumnus of John Abercrombie's band and a composer in his own right. Saxophonist Jacob Teichroew, the newest addition to the band, is already well-known to Bar 66 patrons and is fast becoming one of New York's up-and-comers.

Category Four performs fusion/soul/hip hop/r&b-influenced contemprary jazz, and all four of its members compose.

Trumpeter Carlos Abadie has teamed with up-and-coming tenor saxophonist Joe Sucato to co-lead a quintet whose members include Jon Lefcoski, Jason Stewart, and Lawrence Leathers. Originally inspired by the music of Horace Silver, Abadie/Sucato Inc. has been introducing original music into their mix of classics. They have already been featured on the bandstands of Smalls, Fat Cat, and Bargemusic and are looking forward to performing for a widening audience.

The seemingly endless stream of great musicians that fly through Bar 66 just keeps on coming.
Once again pianist Claude Diallo will be performing, but this time with a new trio.
On bass Luques Curtis, currently of the Sean Jones band, and on drums Mitch Perrins.

The evening will feature several original works by Claude. We are so lucky to have such fine musicians and I STRONGLY recommend you come along and check this gig out...

After landing in New York in 1993, Armacost quickly established his presence as a leader, releasing his first two albums, 'Fire' (Concord) and 'Live at Smalls' (Double Time) to critical acclaim.

Gilad is the 2005 winner of the Gibson Montreux International Guitar Competition, and regularly plays with the Ari Hoenig trio.
Since his arrival to New York in 2004, Gilad Hekselman has been earning a reputation as one of the most promising guitarists
in New York. In only four years this native Isreali has shared the stage with many top names from the New York jazz scene including Chris Potter, John Scofield, Anata Cohen, Jeff Ballard and Jeff 'Tain' Watts.

The Claude Diallo Situation - April 4th, 830pm

The Claude Diallo Situation - an extremely hip band that has been touring extensively throughout the US and Europe, will be playing there New York debut at Bar 66. What an honor!
Claude Diallo is a Swiss Jazz musician that graduated from Berklee College of Music and then moved to New York in 2007 where he went on to obtain his Masters Degree at the Copland School of Music.

Spiro Sinigos Quartet - March 18th 830pm


Great young drummer and composer Spiro Sinigos brings his exciting quartet to Bar 66.
Spiro has supported the Bar from it's opening date and now it's his turn to
entertain the audience. Band members are Goro (guitar) from Japan, Davis Linaburg (guitar) from Germany and PJ Roberts (Bass) from Michigan.
It's a stellar line-up with great music from this thoroughly nice cat!

Spiro Sinigos Biography...
In 2008, Spiro received his B.M. in Jazz Studies from Western Michigan University. He has performed with Marcus Belgrave, Scott Cowan, Jon Faddis, Tim Froncek, Billy Hart, Stefon Harris, Tom Knific, Trent Kynaston, Keaton Royer, Jiggs Whigham, Dennis Wilson, and Steve Zegree. Spiro released his first cd "Magic Train" in May 2008. He currently teaches 1st grade through high school students at the New World Music Center School of Music in Baldwin, Long Island, NY. He's pursuing a M.A. in Jazz Performance at Queens College in Flushing, Queens, NY and is in the process of making The Max Roach Transcription Book. He has studied with Tim Froncek, Rupert Kettle, Keith Hall, Billy Hart, Vince Cherico
